Moving an ecommerce store from Magento or Adobe Commerce to Shopify is a major technology decision. For a small store, the process may be relatively straightforward. For a larger ecommerce business, however, migration can involve product catalogs, customers, orders, custom functionality, extensions, ERP systems, PIM platforms, CRM tools, payment providers, shipping systems, and SEO.
This is where Magento to Shopify migration services can provide significant value.
A professional migration partner can help businesses plan the project, migrate important data, rebuild the storefront, replace Magento extensions, reconnect integrations, protect SEO, test the new store, and manage the transition to Shopify.
What Are Magento to Shopify Migration Services?
Magento to Shopify migration services are professional services designed to move an ecommerce business from Magento, Magento 2, or Adobe Commerce to Shopify.
Depending on the business, a migration service can include:
- Magento store audit

- Data mapping
- Product migration
- Customer migration
- Order migration
- Theme development
- Extension replacement
- Custom Shopify development
- ERP integration
- PIM integration
- CRM integration
- Payment integration
- Shipping integration
- SEO migration
- URL redirects
- Data validation
- Quality assurance
- Launch support
- Post-migration monitoring
The exact scope depends on the complexity of the existing Magento store and the requirements of the new Shopify environment.
Why Hire a Magento to Shopify Migration Partner?
Magento stores can become highly customized over time.
A business may have:
- Custom modules
- Third-party extensions
- Complex pricing
- Product configurators
- B2B workflows
- ERP connections
- Custom checkout functionality
- Multiple storefronts
Simply moving the product catalog doesn't recreate these systems.
A professional migration team can evaluate the existing architecture and determine what needs to be rebuilt, replaced, simplified, or removed.
1. Magento Store Audit
A professional migration usually starts with an audit.
The migration team reviews:
- Products
- Categories
- Customers
- Orders
- Images
- Inventory
- CMS pages
- Blog content
- URLs
- SEO
- Extensions
- APIs
- Payment systems
- Shipping
- ERP
- CRM
- PIM
The purpose is to understand how the existing store works before designing the Shopify environment.
The audit can also uncover outdated functionality that doesn't need to be migrated.
2. Migration Strategy
After the audit, a migration roadmap can be created.
The strategy should define:
- Data to migrate
- Data to clean
- New Shopify structure
- Theme requirements
- Custom functionality
- Apps
- Integrations
- SEO requirements
- Testing
- Launch process
The project should also establish responsibilities, milestones, and contingency procedures.
A clear migration strategy can reduce unexpected changes during development.
3. Product Catalog Migration
Product migration is often one of the largest components of the project.
Data can include:
- Product names
- Descriptions
- SKUs
- Prices
- Images
- Variants
- Categories
- Attributes
- Inventory
- Related products
A migration partner can map Magento product fields to Shopify's structure.
For example:
Magento Product → Shopify Product
Magento Category → Shopify Collection
Data should then be validated after import.
4. Customer Migration
Customer migration may include:
- Names
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Addresses
- Customer groups
- Purchase information
Customer data needs to be handled securely.
Passwords require separate planning because Magento authentication data cannot simply be transferred as ordinary customer information.
The migration strategy should also define how existing customers will access their accounts after Shopify launches.
5. Historical Order Migration
Historical orders may be required for:
- Customer service
- Returns
- Accounting
- Reporting
- Business records
Depending on requirements, the migration can include:
- Order numbers
- Products
- Quantities
- Prices
- Customers
- Shipping information
- Dates
- Status
The business should decide how much historical order information needs to remain accessible.
6. Magento Extension Migration
Magento stores frequently depend on third-party extensions.
A migration partner should audit these extensions and determine whether each feature should be:
- Replaced with Shopify-native functionality
- Replaced with a Shopify app
- Rebuilt through custom development
- Integrated with another system
- Removed
This can be an opportunity to reduce technical debt.
Trying to reproduce every Magento extension can make the new Shopify store unnecessarily complicated.
7. Shopify Theme Development
A Magento theme cannot simply be installed on Shopify.
The storefront needs to be rebuilt using Shopify's theme architecture.
Development can include:
- Homepage
- Navigation
- Collection pages
- Product pages
- Search
- Filtering
- Cart
- Customer accounts
- Mobile UX
The migration can also be combined with a redesign to improve the customer journey.
8. ERP, PIM and CRM Integrations
Enterprise stores often depend on external systems.
These can include:
- ERP
- PIM
- CRM
- OMS
- WMS
- Accounting
- Inventory
- Marketing automation
Each integration needs to be evaluated for Shopify.
Some may have existing Shopify connectors.
Others may require:
- API development
- Custom applications
- Middleware
- Third-party integration services
Integration testing should be completed before launch.
9. Payment and Shipping Migration
Payment and shipping systems are essential to ecommerce operations.
Payment testing should cover:
- Checkout
- Transaction processing
- Refunds
- Order status
- Payment confirmation
Shipping testing should cover:
- Shipping rates
- Delivery zones
- Shipping methods
- Tracking
- Fulfillment
The migration team should verify that these systems work correctly with Shopify before the store goes live.
1. Magento Store Audit

SEO should be treated as a dedicated workstream.
An established Magento website may have thousands of indexed URLs and valuable backlinks.
A migration partner should create a URL map:
Old Magento URL → New Shopify URL
When URLs change, appropriate 301 redirects should be implemented.
The SEO migration should also review:
- Title tags
- Meta descriptions
- H1 headings
- Canonical URLs
- Internal links
- Structured data
- Image alt text
- XML sitemap
High-value pages should receive additional attention during testing.
1. Magento Store Audit
1
After migration, the new Shopify store should be compared with the Magento source.
Validate:
- Product counts
- Customer records
- Order records
- Categories
- Images
- Variants
- Prices
- Inventory
For large stores, automated validation can make this process more efficient.
The goal is to identify discrepancies before launch rather than after customers start using the new store.

2
Professional migration services should include comprehensive testing.
Functional Testing
Test:
- Products
- Search
- Filters
- Cart
- Checkout
- Customer accounts
Payment Testing
Test:
- Transactions
- Refunds
- Payment status
Integration Testing
Test:
- ERP
- PIM
- CRM
- Inventory
- Shipping
SEO Testing
Test:
- Redirects
- Metadata
- Canonicals
- Sitemap
- Indexability
Mobile Testing
Test the shopping experience across smartphones and tablets.

3
Analytics should be configured before launch.
Review:
- Google Analytics
- Google Search Console
- Advertising pixels
- Conversion tracking
- Ecommerce events
- Tag management
Test important events such as:
- Product views
- Add to cart
- Checkout
- Purchases
This allows the business to compare performance before and after migration.

The final migration requires a carefully coordinated cutover.
Before launch:
- Complete final data synchronization
- Verify integrations
- Activate redirects
- Configure the domain
- Test payments
- Verify analytics
- Confirm inventory
- Complete final SEO checks
A rollback plan should also be prepared in case an unexpected critical issue occurs.

Professional support shouldn't necessarily end when Shopify goes live.
The first few weeks can be used to monitor:
- Organic traffic
- Rankings
- Conversions
- Revenue
- 404 errors
- Redirects
- Checkout problems
- Inventory
- Integration failures
- Page performance
Google Search Console can help identify crawling and indexing issues.
Business systems should also be monitored to ensure orders, payments, shipping, and inventory continue operating normally.

There is no standard price.
The cost can depend on:
- Product volume
- Customer database
- Order history
- Theme requirements
- Magento extensions
- Custom functionality
- ERP/PIM/CRM integrations
- Payment and shipping systems
- SEO requirements
- International markets
- Testing
A simple Magento store may require a relatively straightforward migration.
A complex Adobe Commerce implementation can require considerably more planning, development, integration work, and testing.
1. Magento Store Audit
7
Before hiring a migration partner, evaluate several areas.
Magento Experience
The team should understand Magento and Adobe Commerce architecture.
Shopify Expertise
They should be able to develop themes, apps, APIs, and integrations.
Data Migration Experience
Ask how products, customers, orders, and other data will be mapped and validated.
SEO Experience
The provider should understand URL mapping, 301 redirects, metadata, canonical URLs, and post-launch monitoring.
Integration Experience
Check whether they have experience with ERP, PIM, CRM, OMS, WMS, payment, and shipping systems.
Payment Testing
0
Ask how they test migrated data, checkout, integrations, performance, and SEO.

Magento to Shopify migration services should cover the entire ecommerce ecosystem rather than focusing only on product imports.
A professional migration can help businesses audit their existing Magento environment, clean and map data, rebuild the storefront, replace extensions, reconnect integrations, preserve SEO, test the new platform, and manage the final launch.
The migration can also be an opportunity to simplify the technology stack.
Businesses don't necessarily need to recreate every Magento customization. Some functionality can be replaced with Adobe Commerce to Shopify migration -native features, apps, or more efficient integrations.
The best migration strategy is therefore not simply:
Magento → Shopify
It is:
Audit → Plan → Simplify → Migrate → Rebuild → Integrate → Test → Launch → Optimize
With the right planning and technical expertise, businesses can move from Magento or Adobe Commerce to Shopify while protecting their data, customers, SEO visibility, integrations, and revenue.
